Sanibel rewards slowing down. It rewards relaxation. It rewards watching time pass. It rewards appreciation of nature. It rewards creative thinking. It rewards those who linger on the beach after everyone else has left. It rewards those who visit during the so-called “off-season” months.
And on the 4th of July holiday, the Sanibel skies above the beach at the romantic Blue Dolphin Beach Cottages rewarded everyone who decided to skip the fireworks down at the causeway and, instead, watch another day quietly come to a close from the vantage point of our secluded stretch of shoreline.
As the hues and quality of light slowly shifted towards dusk, a small summer thunderstorm quickly passed on the distant horizon adding another layer of colorful sky drama and electricity to the unforgettable scene.

A barefoot walk down the beach brought us past sea turtle nests, shells on the shoreline, and a couple people fishing. The sound of the gentle surf. The feeling of warm, salty water on our feet. The sight of pelicans dive bombing and splashing. Losing ourselves in the mindful type of quiet time where the mind isn’t fixated on yesterday or tomorrow. Just purely in the present moment.
